NDMP's Experience

Conducted probabilistic seismic and flood risk assessment survey for Pakistan and Islamabad. Project duration was 18 months and started since Sept2013 and continues till 30 June 2015.

Conducted flood hazard and risk assessment survey and mapping using HVCA/PRA and GIS/RS tools for Union Council Agra District Charsadda. The project duration was 6 months and completed during December 2014.

Developed Road Map for Disaster Risk Management during March-November 2014

  •  Multi Hazard Vulnerability and Risk Assessment Mapping (MHVRA) using GIS and RS technologies in five selected districts of Sindh Province namely Thatta, Badin, Tando Allah Yar, Tando Muhammad Khan and Mirpur Khas. Funding for the project is provided by WFP and NDMP was National partner with ADPC Bangkok Thailand.
  •  Co-Partner with ADPC on “Risk Assessment study & Formulation of Disaster Risk Reduction Strategies for the Flood Affected Areas of Punjab and Sindh Provinces”, with Concern Worldwide with funding from European Commission.

Conducting Risk Assessment Survey using HVCA/PRA tools for prioritizing 80 high priority disaster prone villages in out of 120 selected villages all over Pakistan. The project is still going on and modern tool like SPSS has been applied for analysis.

  •  Conducted Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (VCA) Survey using PRA and GIS tools for prioritizing 20 high priorities disaster prone villages in District Muzaffargarh.
  •  Conducted Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (VCA) Survey using PRA tools for prioritizing 30 high priorities disaster prone villages in District Bhakkar.

Development of Training Curricula/ Manuals and Delivery of Trainings on DRM and CBDRM” for PDMA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Phase 1 (Six Months during 2013):

  •  85 Provincial and District level Government officers including DDMOs, Civil Defence, Social Welfare and Rescue1122 Officers get trained on DRR.
  •  154 UC level Government Officials and Community Volunteers got training on TOT on CBDRR.
  •  Around 50 Master Trainers were identified at UC level in five selected districts of KP Province including Swat, Peshawar, Nowshera, DIK and Mansehra Districts.

The project was implemented in 15 disaster affected districts of KP Province with following results;

  •  228 Provincial and District level Government Officers including DDMOs, Civil Defence, Social Welfare and Rescue1122 Officers have completed trainings on DRR.
  •  525 UC level Government Officials and Community Volunteers will get trainings on TOT on CBDRR.
  •  150 Master Trainers identified at UC level in 15 selected districts identified.

PEER is financially supported by USAID ODFA and implemented in 10 countries of Asia. NDMP was coordinating and responsible for organizing HOPE and CADRE courses with NDMA as nodal agency while implementing partners are, NHEPRN, PRCS and Rescue 1122.

  •  Organized 8 training courses on Hospital Preparedness for Emergencies (HOPE) and one Training for Instructors (TFI) training courses at various districts.
  •  Organized 13 training courses on Community Action for Disaster Response (CADRE) and one Training for Instructors (TFI) training courses and one Master Instructors Workshop organized at Bangladesh.
  •  Total of 434 Community Volunteers, Rescue 1122 officers, para medical and medical officers got trained from HOPE and CADRE trainings and Workshops.
  •  Developed Training Modules and conduct 3 different training courses on “Developing DRR plan for Health Emergencies in District Swat”. Each course of 3-day duration was organized for District Hospitals, Tehsil Hospitals and Basic Health Units separately.
  •  Developed emergency response plan under project “District health operational and response Plan for Health Facilities in District kohistan”.
  •  Conducted 09 Medical First Aid courses at Swat and Kohistan during March-May 2013.
  •  Conducted 09 Search and Rescue (SAR) at Swat and Kohistan during March-May 2013.

External Evaluation for the 3-year project (2008-2011) on “Community Based Disaster Preparedness (CBDP)” and responsible for designing follow-up project of 3-year duration during 2012-2014.

Developed training manual and conducted a 3-Day training course on “Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Response Management”.

Developed training manual and conducted a 3-Day training courses on “Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Preparedness” for ICMC staff.

Three training courses on “Disaster Risk Reduction” with each of four day duration each at Timergara and Kashmore were organized during February and March 2012, while third one course will be organized at Mirpur Khas during April. NDMP was responsible for developing trainer manual and delivery of the course along with submission of detail assessment report.

Engaged in developing training manual and trainer’s manual on CBDRM and conduct 5-day training course on TOT CBDRM with support of Rescue 1122 Punjab and UNHABITAT during March-April (Project is in progress).

Engaged in developing training manual on CBDRM, develop IEC material and conducted 3-day training courses on CBDRM for district level government officers at Charsadda, Nowshera, Peshawar and Swat Districts during 2012.

Engaged in developing training manual on CBDRM and conduct 5-day training course on TOT-CBDRM for WVP staff and Implementing Partners at Peshawar, Islamabad, Muzaffargarh and Sukkur district during 2012.

Develop Health Based Community Based Disaster Risk Management training toolkit and conducted pilot courses in Islamabad, Gilgit and Muzafarabad Districts during 2013.

  •  Conducted 06 weeks training course on Urban Search and Rescue in Gilgit for the light USAR teams of Gilgit and Skardu districts. Around 25 members attended the course.
  •  Conducted 7 courses on TOT CBDRM at Chitral under SCORE project during 2015.
  •  Developing Road map of safer Azad Kashmir 2015-2025, with funding support of Islamic Relief during 2015. Project is still in progress
  •  Developing “District Disaster Risk Management Plan for District Bhakkar”, with funding support of Oxfam Novib. Project is in progress till September 2015.
  •  Developed “District Disaster Risk Management Plan for District Swat”, with funding support of Malteser International during 2014.
  •  Developed “Tehsil Disaster Risk Management Plan for Tehsil Bahrain District Swat”, with funding support of Lasoona and Diakonnie during 2014.
  •  Developed “District Disaster Risk Management Plan for District Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ismail Khan and Khyber Agency”, with funding support of FAO Pakistan during 2014
  •  Developing training manual on “Disaster resilient safer hospitals in Pakistan”, under WHO funded project at Dera Ismail Khan.
  •  Published eight books for UNDP/NDMA, WHO, Doaba Foundation, WFP, and PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
  •  Developed 6 Atlases on “Multi Hazard Vulnerability and Risk Assessment” for Sindh Province as whole and five selected districts including Mirpur Khas, Thatta, Badin, Tando Allah Yar and Tando Muhammad Khan
  •  Developed an Atlas on “Hazard and Risk Mapping” for UC Agra District Charsadda with funding support of SDC.
